Why Consult A Criminal Lawyer

Dennis Reeve explains the reasons for consulting a criminal lawyer.

There are three reasons why someone needs a criminal lawyer. One is that they have been charged with a criminal offense. The second is that they are about to be charged with a criminal offence. And the third one is that they’ve been contacted by the police and they don’t know why or what to do.

The most common types of cases that we see are impaired driving cases and domestic assault. Generally speaking, what we deal with are average members of the public who find themselves in a difficult situation and don’t know how to deal with it.

It’s always advisable to talk to a lawyer, particularly if the police have called to say “we want you down at the station.” A lawyer can give some insight as to why the police want to talk to you, and what to expect when you get there. The lawyer won’t be allowed to go in with you, but their advice is more important than actually being there. The advice almost always is that you should not give a statement. So for that reason, it’s important to talk to a lawyer first.
