Why Seeing A Family Lawyer Is Important in A Separation

I would recommend that people who are thinking of separating see a lawyer to know what they should or shouldn’t do to enhance or maintain their rights.

For instance, staying in the matrimonial home is an important issue when seeking custody. The courts are more willing to have the children stay in their familiar home and school surroundings rather than move away.

I have had people who settled things between themselves and then a year later, they see a lawyer and realize that, though their settlement may have saved them a few dollars in legal fees, it ultimately cost them a lot in financial ways, in custody and access ways, and in their own happiness. It is important that people seek legal advice in order to make the best decisions and be able to negotiate a reasonable resolution to their problems. I’ve seen people in these situations hundreds of time, so I know what the possibilities are and how to find the best one to suit my client’s particular needs.
